WALKING + SONS OF ANARCHY + FITBIT = :)))))

WALKING IS GOOD THERAPY

I generally don't get worked up about things that are truly out of my power, but I absolutely think it is important to control the controllables (a mantra from my retail days).  The fact is, I am a little more tired than I was before chemo, but it is still important to move.  Dr. D said that it was good to not be sedentary. We all know that getting a little exercise in on a regular basis is good for us, but most of us struggle to fit it in and to find something that we love.  Walking has been my salvation. Your digestive system typically slows down a bit with cancer treatments (TMI) and walking helps with this tremendously.  It also makes me happy:)

I've gotten into a routine that works for me.  I wake up, take all of my vitamins, grab a banana and head down to the basement to our treadmill.  I'm sure I could benefit from the fresh air with a walk outside, but I enjoy walking while watching TV.  I find a great show on Netflix and the deal is, I can only watch the chosen show while I walk.  Right now I'm watching Son's of Anarchy...it is soooo good. I can't wait to get up in the morning to see what Jacks, Tara and the rest of the MC are going to do next. This is how I stay motivated.  How to you motivate yourself to work out?

The benefits of walking.

FITBIT

I'm sure that lots of you have heard of the Fitbit.  It is a little contraption that monitors the steps you take, sleep (apparently I am not very sleep efficient), calorie intake (I completely ignore this:(), water consumption (I actually am good at this).  It's a silent alarm clock (it buzzes your wrist) I like this because it doesn't wake up Rob and it has a snooze feature in case I need 10 more minutes of shut eye.  You can set goals and it keeps you advised of your progress. My scale even syncs to my Fitbit dashboard.  Using this was cool when I was trying to gain weight.  I'm above my target weight now, so I don't love this feature:). Of course there's an app for this so it's like my personal trainer and motivator.  I'm a person that doesn't like not making goals so I'll find a way to get in a few extra steps if I need them.  I adjusted my goal to just 10,000 steps a day which is compeltely attainable in an average day.  It's not boot camp or Zumba, but it's going to get me through this time. Do you use a Fitbit or something similar?  Do you love it?

CELEBRATING LINDSAY & NICOLE

As I continue to live in gratitude, I give thanks to Lindday and Nicole from St. Luke's today.

Lindsay:  Turned me on to ebates.com.  Even though I worked in retain forever, I honestly don't love shopping.  Give me an estate sale or flea market and I'm in hog heaven, but I don't enjoy spending a lot of time shopping for new stuff so I end up doing a lot of online shopping. I know what the retail markup generally is so I'm always looking for a deal. Ebates.com lets you shop on many of your fave sites and get a quarterly check sent to you just for shopping through them.  The cool thing is that you can still use any coupon codes you may have. Thanks Meghan...I mean Linday:)

Nicole:  I was rushing this morning and forgot to put cocoa butter on my legs.  I'm wearing shorts today and I was super, crazy, out of control ashy.  After I was seated in my chemo room Nicole came in with a bottle of Jerkens lotion.  This sounds like a small thing, but an ashy brown girl is no bueno.  Thanks Nicole!

Not only is the St. Luke's team caring and compassionate, they give great shopping advice & help in fashion emergencies:)

L to R: Lindsay & Nicole
